What is a family?
Family. What does it mean to you?
Well, according to an online dictionary, a family is a group of individuals who are connected by thier roots/ancestry, or that share a household. They even give the definition of " a unit of a crime syndicate (as the Mafia) operating within a geographical area "....interesting, huh?
I'm not one of those people that have numerous cousins to hang out with, nor have half my relatives living down the street.....and I come from what some of you would call "a broken home". yeeaah, that's right. My mom & father were not meant to be together! I'm fortunate that they realized it early on - I would NOT want to be one of those people who complain about how much thier parents hate each other! That would suck! ...and it can really warp a kid's idea of what a healthy relationship SHOULD be....

Most of the people that I consider my family, are not related to me
by blood, family tree, common household, nor organized crime! Although, we do get into a little bit of a trouble once in a while....
My idea of FAMILY : people that I care about & care about me....individuals that genuinely have a place in thier hearts for happiness, well-being and unconditional love for one-another...even when they've just met! My mom has NEVER EVER alienated ANY of my friends because she knows that if they're my friends, they're my family....which she knows, means they're her family as well. ...and she's cool with that! We never had much money, but every xmas (even today) my mom always has extra little gifts already wrapped and waiting....just in case new family comes over, she doesn't want them to feel left out. MOM ROCKS!
I have also met many moms just like mine through my new family/friends...I guess that's why we connect so well...they've been shown to love, respect and have an open mind.....
Unconditional love is a very power thing!

It's like a boomerang; the more you throw it out there, the more it'll come back to you.....
It's not something that you're taught, it's something that you're shown!!
If you are surrounded by altruism, you will ooze it as well :)

I agree with you 100%
I grew up with my mother, she was around till I was 15...
She used to go get my grandpa at the old folks home for supper and then she would also invite anyone who didn't have plans because their family couldn't see them at christmas or they had none...
I have always tried to live my life like that. People don't have to be a part of your family to make them your family...
I have several close friends that I consider family....
Both of my parents are amazing people. They have always welcomed my friends and my sister's friends with open arms over the years. My house was "the house" that everyone hung out at and there were always empty seats at the dinner table and extra food in case anyone stayed for dinner (and did they ever stay over often!! -My mom is a great cook!!)
I have a few close friends and I also consider them to be my family. I can pretty much count them on one hand. Who needs a million best friends when you can have 2 or 3 really close ones who are there for you if you need them in a second?
I am very blessed...
The past has made me realize that exact thing ; have few really great friends is better than having numerous half-assed slacker friends....unfortunataly, I only found that out AFTER I REALLY needed my friends to be there for me when I had to start my life over again about 4 years ago...aw well, now I tend to be a little more cautious with my heart...like all of us, I'm sure.
I am someone who considers friends to be family as well. I count myself truly blessed because I have always been surrounded by a good group of people that were always there for me and will continue to always be there. Friends are your chosen family :)
